Introduction
Mishel Zara is a Muslim author based in Pakistan. Not much is written about her online other than she has written a debut novel, "Still With You" which is a halal romance novel.
What exactly is halal you might ask. It is an Arabic word that means permissible or allowed under Islamic law. It applies to lifestyle, behavior, food, ethics and how relationships are portrayed.
Haram is the opposite and means forbidden in Islam. Avoiding harm, indecency and other things that may corrupt their spiritual values.
This is why the genre halal is important because it provides readers (Muslims especially) with love stories that reflect their values given through storytelling. I believe it is also a great way of educating the audience about Muslin values as well without being preachy. And if you ever need a break from sexually explicit romance novels these won't disappoint.
So What’s Still With You about?
Still With You is about a Muslim woman named Ayeza that enjoys going to a Cafe regularly. She starts receiving strange notes and a rose from an anonymous stranger. But life doesn’t slow down just because love shows up—Ayeza is juggling college, personal growth, and a marriage that complicates everything.
This novel has made me smile, grin, laugh, and feel a deep sadness in some parts. Ayeza is lovable and relatable. There were moments where I caught myself yelling at the pages because she missed some very obvious hints, but honestly? That’s real life. People are actually like this in everyday life always missing subtle social cues and hints which is exactly what the author included in this book. Watching Ayeza navigate love, faith, and uncertainty felt both personal and powerful. You'll have to read the book yourself though to find out what I mean as there are no spoilers here.
Who Should Read This?
If you’re looking for a clean romance or just need a breather from all the spicy, smutty reads you’ve been binging, Still With You is the perfect reset. This love story is sweet and not shallow with a Muslim narrative that isn't preachy sprinkled with a slice of life setting wrapped up in mystery and warmth. Whether you’re Muslim, spiritual, or just love watching love bloom quietly in unexpected ways, this novel is ready to take you on your next adventure.
